Juniper is an aromatic evergreen that is burned as fragrant incense or a smudge that has the ability to cleanse the surroundings and attract positive influences while warding off negative energy. Juniper is believed to guard against unwanted spirits and illnesses and is frequently used for its healing purposes.

Directions and usage:
The act of smudging is done with a smudge bowl or Abalone Shell with the appropriate herbs directly lit or burned on a coal or charcoal tablet. Smoke is 'washed' over the person or object with a feather or by fanning the smoke with one's hand.
Before beginning open a door at the exit of the home to invite all unwanted energy to leave the newly cleansed space once the practice is completed. Open desired windows for extra airflow. You will need a fireproof dish, tray, bowl, or shell to collect ashes and resin as you travel through your space.
Have your intentions in mind before beginning and speak intentions quietly or aloud during your practice. Light stick at a 45-degree angle and allow the stick to burn evenly, blow softly to reduce flame if needed.
When blessing a person, begin by motioning smoke toward their heart and move the smoke around their body starting on the right side of their head moving sunwise (clockwise) around the body. When blessing a space, be sure to begin at the entrance of the location and work your way sunwise around the space.
Be sure to open all drawers, cabinets and pay close attention to areas where stagnant energy may be hard to reach (inside the oven, washer/dryer, closets, beneath furniture, etc.). Allow smudge stick to naturally burn out in dish - do not put out with water, do not try to stop from burning.
